Green Infrastructure for Growth (GI4G)

We are proud that Cormac is the principle contractor for the Green Infrastructure for Growth (GI4G) project, which leads the way in improving open urban spaces and forms part of the Council’s Environmental Growth Strategy.

The project has so far improved the conservation status of at least 40 hectares of habitat in urban areas across Cornwall – the original project target was 35. This has been delivered across 30 sites, community hubs and spaces in Camborne, Pool, Redruth, Penzance, Bude, Saltash and Hayle.

The benefits identified by the project include:

  • improving the wildlife value of an area equivalent to 35 rugby pitches
  • increasing accessibility to open spaces for all
  • providing opportunities for outdoor lifelong learning
  • increasing community engagement in positive green space management

The project has been received as a resounding success and a great example of collaboration between Cormac and Cornwall Council. The next stage is delivery across a further 6 towns in 2020.
