ICE South West Cormac Contracting finalist
One of the projects we completed during the pandemic, has been chosen for an award. We are a finalist in the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West Civil Engineering Awards 2021.
The Emergency Homeless Housing Project saw Cormac Solutions teams construct temporary accommodation. The accommodation is to support rough sleepers during the lockdowns.
Managed by Cornwall Housing, the scheme saw the build of 22 temporary dwellings on two sites. These offered protection and stability to homeless and vulnerable people.
The cabins were set up with mains drainage and power. They also included seating, landscaping and planters. An opportunity for tenants to grow their own vegetables. Working closely with partners, all work was done in three weeks.
This is a fantastic project and great to be recognised for helping people in Cornwall. It also demonstrates excellent teamwork within the Group. The project was one of only 10 finalists to be selected.
Jon Warner Housing Manager at Cornwall Housing, said: -
“This project has been life changing for some of our clients during the pandemic. The accommodation provided a real alternative to the normal emergency accommodation offer. They have space and their own front door. Which after months, sometimes years on the street has given them a real chance to recover and thrive.
Not only has it changed individual lives. The scheme is changing the whole idea of what emergency accommodation looks like. Similar schemes are now being planned elsewhere in the County. The speed with which Cormac designed and delivered was simply breath-taking. "
The ICE Awards is a competition showcasing the South West’s best civil engineering work. It celebrates innovation, sustainability, excellence and outstanding achievement across the South West. It is judged by a panel of industry leaders.
